Bold retelling of Twelfth Night at Sherman Theatre
Published on
A touch of sparkle and a spirit of celebration set the tone for Theatr Clwyd’s fresh interpretation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. A joyful and inclusive theatrical experience.
A disco ball isn’t necessarily what you’d expect to be featured in the promotion of a Shakespeare play, but Theatr Clwyd's vibrant twist on Shakespeare’s greatest comedy is set to be a fun, party-filled, glitter-infused show. Directed by Juliette Manon.
For those of you unfamiliar with the plot, the play is a comedy of love triangles, feuds and mischievous pranks. Shipwrecked twins wash up in an unfamiliar land far from each other. Setting off on their new, very different lives, they’re quickly drawn into a world where nobles become servants and friends become lovers.
Seeing Shakespeare’s story through a queer lens, this uplifting new production celebrates the beauty in being unapologetically ourselves.
Shakespeare’s greatest comedy is shaken up in this fun, debauchery-filled show.
To give the play its full title, 'Twelfth Night, or What You Will' is said to have first appeared in print in the 1623 'First Folio' but it is believed by some that the play was written around 1601–1602 as Twelfth Night entertainment. Twelfth Night refers to the conclusion of the twelve days of Christmas and traditionally was a night of revelry and Theatr Clwyd’s production promises to be just that!
Along with Sherman Theatre, Theatr Clwyd is one of Wales’ largest producing theatres, making shows at their home in Flintshire and touring nationally.
Twelfth Night runs at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff from 21-23 May. Tickets are available from www.shermantheatre.co.uk
