The world-renowned London Symphony Orchestra joins conductor Sir Antonio Pappano and star cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason for a powerful programme pairing Edmund Finnis' Cello Concerto with Bruckner's monumental Ninth Symphony.
The London Symphony Orchestra brings its Orchestral Season 2026/27 to Beacon Hall on Saturday 24 October 2026, led by Chief Conductor Sir Antonio Pappano with cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason as soloist.
The programme
The evening opens with Edmund Finnis' Cello Concerto, described by the composer as "the most lyrical, intense and emotionally direct music" he has written, before moving to Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 – a work left incomplete at the composer's death but still a towering summation of his life, from its overwhelming Adagio to its bombastic Scherzo.
The performers
Kanneh-Mason, renowned for playing of expressive beauty and power, performed the world premiere of the Finnis concerto in 2025, making this Bristol performance a rare chance to hear the piece live alongside one of classical music's great unfinished masterworks.
Booking
A free pre-concert talk with Jonathan James runs from 16:10 in Lantern Hall. Doors open at 16:30 for a 17:00 start; tickets range from £10 to £58 including booking fee, suitable for all ages with under-16s accompanied by an adult.
