Star saxophonist Jess Gillam presents an exhilarating journey through 900 years of music, moving from Hildegard von Bingen and CPE Bach to folk traditions, Kate Bush and David Bowie.
Award-winning saxophonist and broadcaster Jess Gillam brings her show SHINE to St George's Bristol on Friday 16 October 2026, a programme spanning 900 years of music from medieval chant to contemporary pop.
A journey through centuries
The evening weaves together CPE Bach, Hildegard von Bingen, Barbara Strozzi and Michael Nyman alongside folk tunes and songs by Kate Bush and David Bowie, performed with Gillam's seven-piece band – described as "a string quartet meets jazz trio with a saxophone wedged in the middle".
What makes it special
Known for her "breathtaking high-wire virtuosity" and warm stage presence, Gillam introduces and tells stories about the music throughout, creating an intimate, celebratory atmosphere rather than a straight recital.
Tickets
Doors for the 19:30 show start from £10, with the event suitable for ages 12+. Pre-order food and drink is available from the venue's Café Bar ahead of the performance.
