Why South Wales Holidaymakers Are Skipping the Airport for Bristol's Royal Portbury Cruises

Cruises from Bristol for South Wales holidaymakers: drive from Cardiff or Newport to Royal Portbury in under an hour and sail with Ambassador, no flights needed.

Why South Wales Holidaymakers Are Skipping the Airport for Bristol's Royal Portbury Cruises

For holidaymakers in Cardiff, Newport and across South Wales, a cruise has often meant a long drive to Southampton or an early start at the airport. Ambassador Cruise Line has changed that. Its adults-only ship Ambition sails from Bristol Port at Royal Portbury Dock, just over the Prince of Wales Bridge – so your holiday can begin less than an hour from your front door.

Bristol vs Southampton: the South Wales maths

From Cardiff, Southampton is roughly a three-hour drive each way – more on a busy Friday on the M4. Royal Portbury takes well under an hour. That means a later alarm on departure day, less money on fuel and an easier journey home when the holiday ends.

Flying has its own costs: getting to the airport early, security queues, luggage allowances and transfers at the other end. On a no-fly cruise, you park, check in your bags and your holiday has started.

Pack what you like

With no flight involved, there are no airline weigh-ins at the airport. Formal outfits, walking boots for the fjords and an extra jumper can all go in. Check Ambassador's own luggage guidance before you pack.
