Young audiences in south Wales will get two opportunities to enjoy the hugely successful one-man show Owl at Home at Sherman Theatre on 1 August. Produced by Wales’ leading children’s theatre company, Theatr Iolo, Owl at Home will then make its debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; the world’s largest performing arts festival, 15-30 August.

Based on the 1975 children’s book of the same name by Arnold Lobel (Frog & Toad, Mousetales), the show with music for children aged 5+ gives its young audience a captivating hour in the company of Owl; alone but not lonely in the place he calls home.

Owl lives alone in a cosy little home in the woods. With no one to talk to, Owl sings to himself and looks for ways to pass the time. He wonders about things a lot, but sometimes his imagination runs away with him and ordinary objects begin to take on a life of their own. Amid the chaos, Owl finds an unexpected friend who’s willing to follow him to the ends of the earth... whether he likes it or not!

Owl at Home is written for the stage by Rina Vergano, directed by Theatr Iolo’s Artistic Director, Lee Lyford, and is performed by actor and musician George Williams. It was first performed in Wales and England in 2022 and 2023, before touring to China in 2024. In October 2025 it was performed at the Korczak Today Festival of Theater for Children and Youth, in Poland.

Owl at Home is one of four productions selected for Cymru Wales in Edinburgh 2026, an Arts Council of Wales initiative supporting Welsh and Wales-based artists to showcase tour-ready work to UK and international programmers at the world-renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Lee Lyford said: “We are thrilled to be selected by ACW and Wales Arts International to represent Wales at the Edinburgh Fringe. Owl at Home travels to Scotland with success in his feathers having already toured China and parts of Europe. We hope the exposure of the Fringe will open more international pathways for this visual, funny and moving show.”
